What is Bitcoin's 200-day moving average?

The average of the last 200 daily closing prices, recalculated every day. It smooths out short swings and is one of the most watched trend lines in any market.

What does it mean when Bitcoin is above or below it?

Above a rising 200DMA is the classic definition of an uptrend; below a falling one, of a downtrend. The price crossing it is watched as a change of trend, although Bitcoin has crossed it many times without a lasting change.

How is the distance calculated?

As price ÷ 200DMA − 1, in percent: +20% means the price is 20% above the average. Price ÷ 200DMA is also known as the Mayer Multiple, which has its own page with bands and a percentile rank.

Where does the price data come from?

Daily closing prices (00:00 UTC) of Bitcoin from exchange public APIs: Binance spot BTCUSDT from 17 Aug 2017. Moving averages start once enough days of history have passed. The data refreshes every few hours, and today's close is the latest price so far. Each chart's data is free to download as CSV.

Is this a buy or sell signal?

No. These indicators describe how the price moved against its own averages in past cycles, and Bitcoin has had only a handful of cycles, so any pattern rests on very few examples. Nothing here is financial advice.
