Data covers only the time since the server last started (it restarts about once a day), so windows longer than that are marked partial. Long liquidations are forced sells, short liquidations are forced buys. Sizes are USD notional (price × quantity). Not financial advice.

Crypto liquidations FAQ

What is a crypto liquidation?

When losses on a leveraged futures position use up its margin, the exchange closes the position by force at market price. That forced order is a liquidation. The trader loses the margin, and the forced order hits the order book like any other market order.

Long vs short liquidations

A long liquidation closes a leveraged long with a forced market sell; it happens when price falls. A short liquidation closes a leveraged short with a forced market buy; it happens when price rises. Longs are red here, shorts are green.

Why do liquidation cascades matter?

Forced sells push price lower, which can liquidate the next long; forced buys push price higher, which can liquidate the next short. Clusters of liquidations often line up with sharp wicks and volatility spikes. They describe what just happened; they are not a prediction.

Where does the data come from?

The public liquidation streams of Binance USDⓈ-M futures and Bybit linear perpetuals. Binance sends at most one liquidation per coin per second (the largest), so its totals are a lower bound. Hyperliquid has no public liquidation feed. Totals start when the server last started, about once a day. Large liquidations also appear as LIQ rows on the volume spike scanner.
