Open Interest Heatmap

The 50 crypto perpetuals with the most open interest, summed over Binance, Bybit, Hyperliquid, Bitget, Gate, HTX, MEXC, KuCoin and Aster, as one grid: each row is a coin and each cell its OI change over 1 hour, 4 hours and 24 hours, next to the 24h price move. Green cells mean open interest (or price) rose, red that it fell. Below them: Hyperliquid's HIP-3 perps on gold, silver, stocks and indices.

The 50 coins on the grid hold $65.90B of open interest across every tracked exchange. Over 4h, open interest rose on 41 of them and fell on 9. The biggest 4h move is HBAR: open interest +23.75%. Among Hyperliquid's HIP-3 markets, SP500 has the most open interest ($183.45M).

How to read it. OI is USD open interest summed per coin over every exchange this site tracks (at least $1.00M); HIP-3 rows sum every dex that lists the market. Changes compare with 5-minute snapshots this site records and show "—" until the server has that much history (collecting for 24 hours). USD OI moves with price, so read the OI columns next to the price change; for single markets with build-up labels see the open interest screener, and for a map sized by OI the crypto heatmap.

Open interest heatmap FAQ

How do you read the open interest heatmap?

Each row is one coin; its open interest (OI) is the value of all open perpetual futures positions, summed over every exchange this site tracks. The coloured cells show how much that total changed over the last 1, 4 and 24 hours, and the last column shows the price change over 24 hours. Green means a rise and red a fall; the colour is strongest at ±2% for 1h, ±5% for 4h and ±10% for 24h and price, and grey means flat or no data yet. The number is always printed in the cell, so the colour is only a guide.

What does rising open interest with a rising price mean?

Usually that new long positions are opening: buyers are adding exposure rather than shorts closing. Rising OI with a falling price points to new shorts, falling OI with a rising price to short covering, and falling OI with a falling price to longs closing or being liquidated. USD open interest also moves with price, so a small OI rise during a big rally may be price alone; the open interest screener takes the price move out and labels each market. Nothing here is financial advice.

Why do gold and stocks appear on a crypto open interest heatmap?

Hyperliquid lists perpetual futures on gold, silver, oil, US stocks and indices through HIP-3, markets deployed by third-party builders and traded with crypto collateral around the clock. Their open interest is recorded like any other perp, so they get their own block below the crypto coins. Only markets with enough open interest and volume are listed; each links to its stock perp page. These are Hyperliquid markets, not CME futures.

How often does the heatmap update?

Every time the page loads, from live data cached for a few seconds. Open interest comes from each exchange's public API and is refreshed at least every 5 minutes; the 1h, 4h and 24h changes compare it with 5-minute snapshots this site records itself, so after a server restart each window fills in once that much history exists.
