How to read the states
Read the guide to hourly price and OI states and what followed for worked examples and limits.
Each row is one hourly bucket, labelled by its start, compared with the bucket before it. A bucket's price is the last 1-minute close in that hour and its open interest the last USD snapshot in that hour, so the row labelled 13:00 compares values recorded just before 14:00 with values recorded just before 13:00.
Price % is the change in that close. USD OI % is the change in open interest value. Price-adjusted OI % removes the price move from it, (OI₁ / OI₀) / (P₁ / P₀) − 1, so open interest that only rose with price reads as 0%. Because both series come from the same exact contract, its contract size cancels out.
An hour is classified when price moved by at least 0.1% and price-adjusted open interest by at least 0.5%; otherwise it is below threshold. These four combinations describe what moved, not who traded: they cannot identify which participants opened or closed positions, or whether longs or shorts were behind a change.
An hour is unavailable when either bucket is missing, invalid or inside a period the engine was not recording, or when coverage could not be checked. Unavailable hours are never treated as flat, filled from a neighbouring hour, interpolated or replaced with a live quote.
