How are Bittensor's monthly returns calculated?
Each month's return is the last daily close of that month divided by the last daily close of the month before, minus one, in UTC; quarters and years work the same way. The first month in the table is measured from its first daily open. Prices are TAOUSDT daily candles on Binance spot, from 11 Apr 2024 on.
What do the average and median rows show?
For each calendar month, the average and the median return over every full year of data. The listing month and the current month are left out of both, because they cover only part of the month. The median is less sensitive to one extreme year than the average.
Why is the current month marked?
The current month, quarter and year are still running, so their returns are "so far": they use the latest daily close, which moves until the day ends at 00:00 UTC. They are shown in italics and not counted in any average, median, best or worst figure.
Are past returns a guide to future returns?
No. Seasonal patterns in crypto are weak and change from year to year; a month with a positive median has still had large losses. Use these tables for context next to funding rates, open interest and liquidations. Nothing here is financial advice.
