Bitcoin Doubling Time
How long did Bitcoin take to double? For each start day, we find the first later daily close at least twice its close. Starts that have not yet doubled show elapsed days separately. History starts 2017-08-17 (Binance), so early-cycle doubling times are not represented.
Of 3,351 start days, 2,454 (73.2%) have since reached a daily close at least twice their starting close. Each time stops at the first qualifying later close. The latest doubled start day is 10 Oct 2024. The current streak contains 739 start days that have not yet doubled. A later price decline does not undo a completed doubling. Recent starts have had less time to double, so completed-only medians can understate eventual waits. Like every indicator here it describes the past and is a model, not a forecast.
Bitcoin doubling time by start day
17 Aug 2017 – 19 Oct 2026 · log days · CSVDoubled: days to first 2× close Not yet doubled: days elapsed
History starts 2017-08-17 (Binance), so early-cycle doubling times are not represented. Uses daily closes, not intraday highs; the latest UTC day is still in progress. Muted marks are elapsed time, not completed doubling times. Today's zero elapsed days cannot appear on a log scale; the CSV includes them. Medians exclude starts not yet doubled. Not financial advice: these pages describe what each indicator showed in past cycles and predict nothing.

Doubling time FAQ
How is Bitcoin doubling time calculated?
For each start day, find the first later daily close at least twice its starting close and count the days between them. Equality counts. Later declines do not erase a completed doubling.
What does not yet doubled mean?
No later close in the available history has reached twice the starting close. The muted series shows elapsed days, a lower bound on the eventual waiting time. These starts are excluded from medians. The current streak counts consecutive start days not yet doubled at the end of the history.
Why does the history start in 2017?
Binance BTCUSDT daily history starts 2017-08-17. Earlier cycles are not represented. Recent start years are incomplete because many starts are still waiting; their medians are not forecasts.
Where does the price data come from?
Daily closing prices (00:00 UTC) of Bitcoin from exchange public APIs: Binance spot BTCUSDT from 17 Aug 2017. Moving averages start once enough days of history have passed. The data refreshes every few hours, and today's close is the latest price so far. Each chart's data is free to download as CSV.
Is this a buy or sell signal?
No. These indicators describe how the price moved against its own averages in past cycles, and Bitcoin has had only a handful of cycles, so any pattern rests on very few examples. Nothing here is financial advice.
